In this scene Dexter kills another victim. From the interview, I learned that the actor who played Dexter Morgan, Michael C. Hall, went off script in this scene and submitted to his inner "Dexter" which resulted in more realistic interpretation of an act of murder.
The scene starts with a gloomy small room with the killer and the still alive victim. At 00:29 we get the view of the room from above and we can see the neatly arranged instruments that will be possibly used for the murder. We see the exposed pipe pretty close which suggests this room is some sort of the industrial property. At last we see something which could be a nice fireplace if we were in a living room, however, based on other characteristics of the room we assume that it's the furnace for cremation. The victim's body is in a perfect alignment with the doors of the oven suggesting that the victim might find himself inside this furnace pretty soon.
The camera is located below Dexter's knees and on the shoulder level of the victim. This position gives us the perspective of the victim. It also creates this predator-victim reversed "T" when the predator enjoys freedom of movement and the vertical position of his body while the victim is in a submissive horizontal position. In addition, the victim's body is highlighted with the bright light while Dexter is hiding in the dark passage for some time. This dark-light difference along with the horizontal-vertical position gives a clear indication of the roles and power distribution between the characters.
In contrast to many suspense scenes, this particular one lacks music. The tension here is created by the contrast of loud screaming of the victim in despair and whispering voice of the predator when he hovers over his prey. All these variations in light, body position and the steady low position of the camera create tension in the scene where violence is about to happen.
